I am weary. There, I said it. Now, for the most part, I am totally okay, and I know that eventually, everything will be okay. I am just weary. The last several months are taking a toll. I am internally conflicted about many things. I am sad by circumstances. So, I want to share 3 things that have helped me in the last week as I walk through this weary season. I hope they bring you some peace and comfort. And if you are feeling weary too, I want you to know you are not alone, and I hope this helps lessen your weariness.

I want to take a few minutes today to help you reframe your shame. First, you need to know there is a difference e between shame and guilt. Shame is used by the enemy to keep you stuck...to keep you from moving forward. Many of you are feeling all kinds of shame for things they did or didn't do during quarantine. I hope you can take that shame and reframe it in a way that gives it purpose and allows you to find freedom to move on!

In today's podcast, we are talking with Paula Faris about how she left her 2 amazing dream jobs to be obedient to God.  She had to learn it's ok to love what you do, but how to not let that define you. What we do shouldn't define who we are. We are worth so much more than what we do, our value comes from more than our vocation. Paula is here to tell us all about finding our calling, how it gives us purpose, and separating that from our vocation.

If you have been around for a hot minute, you know I am big on pivoting when God tells you to. I have several podcast episodes around the idea of pivoting and in today's climate, it can be extremely necessary to stay in business. Today I want to encourage you and give you a picture of pivoting God shared with me. I also want to caution you against not pivoting and being at the risk of being plucked. BTW, being plucked it not usually pleasant!

This week I was thinking of ways we measurement different things and I really focused on some of the ways we measure Christlike behavior. The Lord really spoke to me about repentance and obedience. You may feel like you don’t know what to do right now. You are overwhelmed with all you see and hear on social media and the news. I want to encourage you to start by looking at your life and relationship. Where do you need to repent and where do you need to be obedient. Listen in as we start there.

In the past few days, God has been using the messy times in the history of my marriage to Jason to remind me and teach me what I need to be doing right now. Jason and I have never come out of hard times without a lot of hard conversation, without gaining the other partner's perspective, without reflection, without looking at each other's point of view. But when we have done those things, we always come out stronger on the other side.

I had a moment of realization that this feels similar to our nation’s current struggles. My prayer is that we are all doing the hard work right now so that our country will come out of this stronger than ever before.

I want to talk about the value of retreating and reloading. Retreating can have a negative connotation, but it really can have soooooo much value! When you retreat you are able to find a new perspective and reset many things. This is has been a time of retreating for many of us. What does it mean? What will it change for our future? What have we learned?

Timing is everything. Even more so during this pandemic. Today I want to talk about God’s timing. It seems to me that God’s timing never matches my own. Anyone else? But what I have found to be true is that God’s holy interruptions and timing that I always think is late turns out to be perfect. The problem is usually us. We are the ones that are impatient and not really ready. Let’s unpack this more…

I know Mother's Day was last week, but today I wanted to talk about the importance of mothers modeling courage to their children. We outsource a lot of teaching—Spanish, horseback riding, and driving are all things I am happy for someone else to teach my kids. BUT teaching courage and showing your kids how to be brave is something we should be doing as moms. Listen is as we talk about not using our kids as an excuse, but instead, as our motivation!

This week I want to break down one of my favorite chapters in my book...chapter 6 all about courage. The world craves confidence. Confidence sells and confidence is what people think is the key. But friends, I am here to tell you that what you really need is courage. Courage is what will help you take action. Courage will get you started. There is no need to rely on yourself and wait for confidence. You may be waiting for a long time. Instead, look to Jesus for courage! Dig deep this week. Have the guts to do the thing without waiting for confidence!

I had a comment in my DMs this past week telling me what I "should"  and "should not" be doing as a business owner right. While I want to extend grace to and think the best of the commenter, I also want to take a few minutes and talk about those in our lives who may be telling us what we "should" be doing right now. This current situation is so polarizing and there is are many opinions. BUT there are very few concrete right answers. I want to encourage us all to offer grace and understanding for how people are navigating these times. I also want to remind us all that we need to continually be looking to God and His word to tell us what we "should'" be doing.

If you want to read more about following the right "shoulds", check out my book Fear Is Not the Boss of You!

Whether you are having to make a shift because of the current pandemic or because God has planted a new direction in your heart, I encourage you to frame it in a positive way. On the other side of a pivot is a brilliant and beautiful new story!

As we go into yet another week of this pandemic, I see that fear is really increasing. When will we return to normal? Will it really be "normal" again? What will happen to my business? I want to pass along some encouragement today by giving you 2 things you can do to combat this creeping fear in. Let's take some action by focusing on what we can control in these seemingly out-of-control times.

If you want to read more about these strategies, check out my book Fear Is Not the Boss of You!

Take Action

  • Focus on things you can control—what you watch, read, eat, do with your body, etc.
  • Do the "worst thing that can happen" exercise.

Using the online space for business isn't just for adults. Teens can benefit greatly by using their passion to create and grow a business. Kids now are being raised in this tech-savvy world that makes it second nature to use for it for business. Almost a year and a half ago my boys, Noah and Easton, started a fun shoe flipping project that has turned into a legit, growing business. Today's interview with my handsome boys goes through how teens can become their own boss, creating a business that works for them. Between family, church, school, sports, and other activities, many teens have learned to pivot to have a "job" and make money in a way that works with their schedule. Do you have a kidpreneur in your home?

I am seeing on social media lately what I am calling productivity shaming. There are those that are saying everyone needs to use this "gift" of time to be doing something big like losing weight or cleaning out your whole house. I have been reminded that God does not have all of us in the same season. Some of us are in a season of rest while others are in a season of running! We need to honor God by honoring the season He has us in.

Which Season Are You In?

  • You may be in a season of rest if...
    • Your calendar is wide open and you can’t make anything happen.
    • You are trying to make things happen and everything is heavy and hard.
    • You are getting bitter.
    • Nothing is working.
  • You may be in a season of running if...
    • There are open doors all over the place.
    • You feel exhilarated and not exhausted.

Some of you LOVE your free Facebook group and are doing amazing with it and I am so happy for you. For those that hate it, it's ok to let it go!!!  I'll say it again, it's ok if you no longer want the free Facebook group you once created. There was a time it was a great idea for every small business to have a free Facebook group, but things changed. Remember, no Facebook group is the boss of you! You started your business for YOU. Do not ever feel like you have to explain your decisions for the business you are working so hard for. If it's stealing your peace, it's too expensive! I want to give you some other options!

I was being interviewed recently and said that I believe crisis can catapult us into our calling. This was a new thought for me, but when I look at my life, I can see that big changes and shifts were often made in response to a crisis. I know lots of people whose businesses and jobs are doing fine during this time. But I also know many who have lost their jobs or had to close their business. I want to take a few minutes to encourage you that this crisis can push you towards something even bigger...something better!

Bible Scriptures to Memorize and Focus On

  • What the enemy meant for evil, God will use for good. -Genesis 50:20
  • All things work together for good to those who are called according to His purpose. -Romans 8:28
