This week in my Inner Circle call, I had two different women talk about how they are afraid to take action. I’m calling this FOR: “the fear of the restart!” One woman said she is nervous to throw her first in-person painting party since COVID, another said she has lost her confidence since it's been so long since she's done anything in her business because of COVID. Perhaps you find yourself in the same position, you know something has been on pause that you need to restart. So today I’m giving three ways to help you get restarted when you feel stuck.

Today on the podcast I’m introducing you to my new friend, Aaron Walker. Aaron started his first business at 18 and sold to a Fortune 500 company nine years later. Since then he has started 12 other widely successful companies and now he is coming on The Jennifer Allwood Show to share his wisdom and expertise with all of us. What I love about Aaron is that even though he has had so much financial success, he knows without relational significance—it doesn’t matter. This conversation inspired me soooo much as I am on my business journey and I know it will for you as well!

Today I want to unpack a word the Lord gave me, which was “don’t miss the window.” I’m a business coach and I see a window for every business owner willing to make a pivot right now into the online space. The window of opportunity is open for those of you to repair relationships and to accomplish something that God has for you that you’ve been ignoring.  I don’t care what negativity you’re hearing right now - God is still on the throne and in control. God’s plan for us is good, friend. Don’t lose an opportunity because you are too slow to act, friend.

This podcast is for the woman who is scared to sell or feels stuck when it comes to business and finances. I want to go over some money mindsets reasons why you are not charging enough for your services. Sometimes, you don’t know what you don’t know. That’s why I’m going over four reasons why you may not be charging enough or working for free. I hope this podcast frees you of some of the mindsets holding you back in your business!

4 Reasons Why You Aren’t Charging Enough or Working for Free
  1. The spirit of manipulation
  2. You struggle with feeling like you or your talent, are worthy of money.
  3. You feel like nice Christian girls shouldn’t charge.
  4. You are struggling with money in general.

Recently I went to Colorado for my mastermind! My business buddy and I went for a hike and let me tell ya—it wasn’t easy! While hiking up the mountain I felt like God was speaking to me. God showed me three different things that I want to share with you about life and business. Friend, we are all struggling. But you don’t have to do it alone. Remember, there are many ways to get to the top of success. Even if it’s not pretty, finishing is most important.

Today Mr. Magic is joining me to talk about our adoption story! It’s been a long process but soooo worth it! We know many of you have been on this journey with us so we wanted to sit down to go over all of your questions. In this episode, we are giving you the details of our personal story, as well as encouragement to anyone who is thinking about adoption.

Okay, so this may be one of the weirdest podcasts of all time. I’m an encourager and sometimes the Lord uses weird analogies to help me encourage other women. Even though it might be strange, at the end of the day, God is God…so today we are going to talk about spiders. Specifically, he used spiders as a metaphor about transition that I want to share with you now. Some of you may be feeling unseen, frail, and unready for transition. This word is for you, friend.

If you’ve been following me recently on social media you’ll know I’ve been speaking out about hypocrisy in our nation. As an introvert, I hate confrontation. I’m not brave, but I have a heart toward obedience. The truth is, we aren’t called to speak on everything. But we are called to speak on the things God has put on our heart whether it’s in our communities, businesses, or social media. This podcast is for those of you who feel like you need to speak out, but feel afraid. I hope this encourages you to speak up on what God has asked you to do!

Psalm 51:10
Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Tips for Speaking Up

  1. Start looking at online conversations (Instagram over Facebook)
  2. Remember people can’t argue with God, scripture, and obedience.
  3. More people are for you than against you.
  4. Start with facts, not feelings.
  5. Talk more about what you are for, rather than what you are against.
  6. Practice "post and snore."
  7. Give yourself grace to not always be right.

Let's talk about Instagram strategy! What I have found is that many people are using the wrong Instagram strategies! This hurts my heart because you're putting time and effort into something that you may not see a return on. So in this episode I'm going over six strategies I've seen recently that are NOT going to grow your account and then telling you what to do to fix them. The truth is, when I first started growing my Instagram I fell for some bogus Instagram 'hacks'. I want you to learn from me so you don't make the same mistakes I did!

Hit the Highlights

(3:24) Don’t: Tag 15 influencers on a photo in hopes that one might comment/respond/notice you.
(5:58) Do: Authentically share and engage with posts from those influencers and tag them on those comments.

(6:22) Don’t: Cold pitch to people you’ve never met or engaged with.
(8:07) Do: Build a genuine relationship.

(7:40) Don't’: Pitch people you don’t follow.
(8:06) Do: Follow them and get to know them BEFORE DMing them.

(8:12) Don’t: Buy followers.
(9:16) Do: Work on increasing reach organically by creating shareable posts.
Pro tip: Your follows may increase but your other stats will tank causing the Instagram algorithm to throttle back your reach.

(11:10) Don’t: Use banned Hashtags and/or popular hashtags that aren’t related to your post.
(12:30) Do: Research hashtags to see what’s relevant and working in your niche.

(12:43) Don’t: Follow for Follow/Like for a Follow/Follow Pods/gimmicky stuff (Ex. Follow these 8 followers for a chance to win $1000.)
(14:49) Do: Share each other’s content organically and reach out to others when they share yours. A simple thank you goes a long way.

(15:17) Don’t: Follow/Unfollow strategy.
(17:05) Do: Only follow people you truly WANT to engage with.
Pro tip: See https://www.ninjalitics.com/ to see if certain accounts are using the follow/unfollow strategy! Instagram will penalize accounts with this activity.

I have a word from the Lord for someone today. I was out on a "wog"—that's a walk-jog for those of you who don't know. Lol! I was praying and heard the Lord say "winter is coming." That's from Game of Thrones, which I haven't watched by the way.  Normally I love fall but this year the idea of cold weather and more lockdowns and the craziness of the world has me feeling anxious. Psychological safety is very important to me and I feel like right now we are under a false sense of security. To me, "winter is coming" tells me that we need to prepare mentally and spiritually for what's ahead. We need to remind ourselves that God is still on the throne and fully in control.

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise.
-Proverbs 6:6

Lately, it is all about the coping strategies for me. And the Lord game me a word for some of you who I know need some help when it comes to coping. So one thing I do, and this has served me when for many years, is trick my brain into thinking these are not as bad as they may be. I play little games with my mind in an effort to soften hard circumstances. I may fumble these words a bit, but I know someone needs to hear this. Maybe it is you.

This is a message of reflection and encouragement for believers. The online shaming and cancel culture in social media is rampant and sooooo not okay. Adults and kids both are being sucked in. As someone who has the Holy Spirit to guide them, you do not have to engage in every fight you are invited to. Use discernment to when deciding who to follow, what to read, and when to comment. And when you are led to unfollow and go a new direction, do it in a God-honoring way. Let's be the light on social media!

I learn a lot from the questions I get asked in my DM's, which leads to this podcast. I get asked quite often about being sent products in the hopes that I will review and share them online. With today's online world, influence marketing can be huge for a company. In fact, one of the best ways for you to grow your business is to get your product in the hands of someone who has a larger platform than you. But there is a right and a WRONG way to do it. I'm going to share with you some tips for both sides of the situation that can really help you.

How to Get Your Product in the Hands of Influencers

1. Follow them
2. Support them
3. Engage with them
4. Ask them

[3:10] Working for free
[6:00] When people want to send you free things

In the last several months, I have been doing something that is a little embarrassing. You're going to have to listen to find out what it is, but basically I have been coping with feeling like I don't have control by controlling areas that don't actually have impact or help. I want to talk today about looking at areas where we don't have control and work on healthy ways to manage those situations. And I want to challenge us all to really look for areas where we do have control and then take action.

You can feel two different emotions simultaneously. You can want two things at the same time that are not in alignment with one another. I can want to go on vacation, but also want to be safe. I can feel joy and excitement over our adoption of Ari and feel some grief. You don’t have to be stuck in a single emotion that is stealing your peace and crushing your spirit. What will give you joy today? Find a way to make it happen. Do something that will give you air and give you life, even if it means you have to navigate multiple feelings or make modifications.

Hey Friends! For today's podcast, I wanted to shake it up a little bit by sharing a chapter from my book, Fear Is Not the Boss of You. In this chapter, I really hit home that people are ALWAYS watching you. We all learn so much by watching how people handle things, react to situations, and use their gifts and talents. God has blessed each of us with talents.  Some are doctors, wood makers, teachers, bloggers, painters, lawyers, etc. See there is no gift too small, God created each of us the way he envisioned. Your gifts could be someone else's blessing. You may never know how something you do or say affects someone. Your power and strength could help raise someone up that might be falling apart right now!
