Each week I share topics that will help you learn how to build an audience, sell online, and grow your business. I also bring in business experts to share their invaluable insight, wisdom and best business tactics, and we talk about how to apply this to your business. We discuss how to overcome and be aware of mindset challenges that creative business owners usually face. We talk about effective ways to brand, market, price and scale your business so you can reach more clients, make more money and work less. And there is so much to share with you! I grew my local Kansas City decorative painting business to a 7-figure online brand and it's my heart's desire to help, empower and encourage other creatives! I know what you're going through as a creative business owner and you are not alone. I want to help you share your gifts, run a successful business and become an expert in your industry. You don't have to be miserable in a 9-to-5. You don't have to fall for the starving artist lie. You can make money with your passions. You can feel two different emotions simultaneously. You can want two things at the same time that are not in alignment with one another. I can want to go on vacation, but also want to be safe. I can feel joy and excitement over our adoption of Ari and feel some grief. You don’t have to be stuck in a single emotion that is stealing your peace and crushing your spirit. What will give you joy today? Find a way to make it happen. Do something that will give you air and give you life, even if it means you have to navigate multiple feelings or make modifications.

Hey Friends! For today's podcast, I wanted to shake it up a little bit by sharing a chapter from my book, Fear Is Not the Boss of You. In this chapter, I really hit home that people are ALWAYS watching you. We all learn so much by watching how people handle things, react to situations, and use their gifts and talents. God has blessed each of us with talents.  Some are doctors, wood makers, teachers, bloggers, painters, lawyers, etc. See there is no gift too small, God created each of us the way he envisioned. Your gifts could be someone else's blessing. You may never know how something you do or say affects someone. Your power and strength could help raise someone up that might be falling apart right now!

Hit the Highlights

[4:50] Using the gifts that God has given you for good
[7:25] Unless a woman's mind and heart are changed, her business is never going to change
[11:00] Getting unstuck to be an influence on the people God surrounds you with
[12:55] People need to see you demonstrate grace under fire
[14:15] When you are stuck in fear, you cannot share your talents
[15:45] Your gifts, no matter how big or small, are your talents that God gave YOU!
[19:15] Seeing other people use their gifts sparks desire for you to be better
[21:10] Your life has a ripple effect on others
[22:30] We all start small, but there's no such thing as a small calling

I hope they bring you some peace and comfort. And if you are feeling weary too, I want you to know you are not alone, and I hope this helps lessen your weariness.

I want to take a few minutes today to help you reframe your shame. First, you need to know there is a difference e between shame and guilt. Shame is used by the enemy to keep you stuck...to keep you from moving forward. Many of you are feeling all kinds of shame for things they did or didn't do during quarantine. I hope you can take that shame and reframe it in a way that gives it purpose and allows you to find freedom to move on!

I have several podcast episodes around the idea of pivoting and in today's climate, it can be extremely necessary to stay in business. Today I want to encourage you and give you a picture of pivoting God shared with me. I also want to caution you against not pivoting and being at the risk of being plucked. BTW, being plucked it not usually pleasant!

This week I was thinking of ways we measurement different things and I really focused on some of the ways we measure Christlike behavior. The Lord really spoke to me about repentance and obedience. You may feel like you don’t know what to do right now. You are overwhelmed with all you see and hear on social media and the news. I want to encourage you to start by looking at your life and relationship. Where do you need to repent and where do you need to be obedient. Listen in as we start there.

In the past few days, God has been using the messy times in the history of my marriage to Jason to remind me and teach me what I need to be doing right now. Jason and I have never come out of hard times without a lot of hard conversation, without gaining the other partner's perspective, without reflection, without looking at each other's point of view. But when we have done those things, we always come out stronger on the other side.

I had a moment of realization that this feels similar to our nation’s current struggles. My prayer is that we are all doing the hard work right now so that our country will come out of this stronger than ever before.

I want to talk about the value of retreating and reloading. Retreating can have a negative connotation, but it really can have soooooo much value! When you retreat you are able to find a new perspective and reset many things. This is has been a time of retreating for many of us. What does it mean? What will it change for our future? What have we learned?

Timing is everything. Even more so during this pandemic. Today I want to talk about God’s timing. It seems to me that God’s timing never matches my own. Anyone else? We are the ones that are impatient and not really ready. Let’s unpack this more…

This week I want to break down one of my favorite chapters in my book...chapter 6 all about courage. The world craves confidence. Confidence sells and confidence is what people think is the key. But friends, I am here to tell you that what you really need is courage. Courage is what will help you take action. Courage will get you started. There is no need to rely on yourself and wait for confidence. You may be waiting for a long time. Instead, look to Jesus for courage! Dig deep this week. Have the guts to do the thing without waiting for confidence!

If you want to read the whole chapter on courage, get a copy of my book Fear Is Not the Boss of You!

I had a comment in my DMs this past week telling me what I "should"  and "should not" be doing as a business owner right. While I want to extend grace to and think the best of the commenter, I also want to take a few minutes and talk about those in our lives who may be telling us what we "should" be doing right now. This current situation is so polarizing and there is are many opinions. BUT there are very few concrete right answers. I want to encourage us all to offer grace and understanding for how people are navigating these times. I also want to remind us all that we need to continually be looking to God and His word to tell us what we "should'" be doing.

If you want to read more about following the right "shoulds", check out my book Fear Is Not the Boss of You!
